History of Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a holistic therapy, originating in Japan at the end of the 19th century and means "pressure with the fingers" (Shi = Fingers; Atsu = Pressure).
Its action is based on holistic therapies, in which body, mind and spirit are connected and have a constantly influence in each other.
So it is common to find Shiatsu, therapists and clinics with connections to traditional Chinese, Japanese, Tantra and Eastern medicine.
How Shiatsu Works
Shiatsu is a therapy, for many considered a massage, which applies pressure from the fingers, especially thumbs, on various points in the body - energetic points, called meridians. Each meridian is connected to an organ or system of organs. When applying pressure in the meridians, it is intended to restore the normal flow of energy, contributing to a better physical, psychic, emotional and mental functioning.
